June is ending and July is beginning all is the same week! This week we are celebrating Independence Day! Thank you to all of the women and men who serve and have served our country and to their families who standby while they are serving. Below we have highlighted what to do over the next week across Westchester! Check back often as we update daily.

Tuesday, June 30:

{National} Tuesdays from 10 – 11:30am: Storytime Join us each week for story time as we read aloud some of your favorite books. Become a book club member and receive a special gift after attending five-story times. Free. Pottery Barn Kids locations.

Tuesday, June 30 – Wednesday, July 1:

{National} Tuesdays – Wednesdays at 10am: Free Summer Movies featuring Rio 2 From June 23rd to August 19th Bowtie Cinemas offers free movies for kids. Seating limited to theatre capacity, tickets issued on a first come, first serve basis. Free for kids. Select Bowtie Cinemas.

(National} Tuesdays – Wednesdays at 10am: Summer Movie Express featuring Nut Job on Tuesday and Annie on Wednesday. Admission to the Summer Movie Express is only $1. Tickets available for purchase at the box office and all movies start at 10am and are rated G or PG. A portion of the proceeds goes to the Will Rogers Institute. Regal Cinemas, Nanuet.

Wednesday, July 1:

Wednesdays from 5:30 – 7pm: Larger than Life DJ Dance Party The summer kicks off with a “Larger than Life” DJ dance party just for kids. Everyone is invited to come down to the beautiful new Van Der Donck Park in Downtown Yonkers. Celebrate the end of the school year and the beginning of summer in style. Van Der Donck Park Yonkers.

Wednesdays from 7 – 9pm: Weekly Concerts Grab your family, friends, beach chair and blanket and head to The Green in the center of the mall to enjoy our free outdoor concerts throughout the summer! Bands will perform a variety of music genres from Latin and R&B to The 60’s and Girl Power, Classic Rock & Roll and Top 40, plus much more! Concerts take place on the main stage in the center of the mall, near AX Armani Exchange. Cross County Shopping Center, Yonkers.

Thursday, July 2:

Thursdays from 10am – 5pm: Through a Child’s Perspective Timed tours are at: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. Parents and children are invited to travel back to the 19th century and view the home of Washington Irving through a child’s eyes. Explore Sunnyside as a family home, and before or after your tour, play games, try on period clothing (photo-op!), and participate in hands-on-activities. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and make a day of it. $12; $6 for children 3-17. Historic Hudson Valley, Pocantico Hills.

Thursday at 12pm: Max Baby Pictures offers discounted admission to enjoy a current movie in a convenient, baby-friendly setting on select Thursdays each month. Our amenities include dim lighting to allow for easy child care in the auditorium; lowered movie volume for babies’ sensitive hearing; baby changing stations and stroller area. Admission is $6.50. Rated PG. Select Showcase Cinemas.

Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30pm: Poolside Summer Pairing Series Castle Hotel & Spa is hosting its 2nd annual Poolside Summer Pairing Series at Equus. Enjoy tastings of an eclectic group of wine, spirits and scrumptious food, along with a gorgeous poolside ambience and a spectacular castle as your backdrop. Event prices start at $68 per person. Castle Hotel & Spa, Tarrytown.

Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30pm: Summer Concert Series Bring your own chair and enjoy local and live entertainments, giveaways, prizes and much more! The Shops at Nanuet, Nanuet.

Thursday at 7pm: Fireworks Join us for the best fireworks display in the Hudson Valley. Enjoy a patriotic fireworks display on Thursday, July 2. Milagros, a Santana tribute band will perform beginning at 7PM and fireworks begin at 9:30PM. The concert will take place on the main stage near AX Armani Exchange and the fireworks will be displayed from the north parking lot (facing the Cross County Parkway, near Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse). Fireworks can be seen from anywhere in the mall. Don’t forget to bring your chairs and blankets to enjoy the show! Thursday from 7:30 – 10pm: Ossining’s Independence Day Celebration Kick-off your Fourth of July holiday with live music and fireworks in Ossining. Enjoy multiple bands as well as food and fireworks. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring seating. Picnics welcome. 7:30pm start; 9:15 fireworks. Free. Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining.

Friday, July 3:

{Hop Skip and a Jump} First Fridays from 5:30-9:30pm: Free Trolley Ride We continue the free Bronx Seaside Trolley every first Friday of the month from 5:30pm to 9:30pm, leaving hourly on the half hour, from Pelham Bay Station and going to The Bartow Pell Mansion Museum then on to City Island for an evening of Art, Music and Fine Dining. Take advantage of special offers when you show your Trolley Card at participating establishments. The Trolley Card is only available from the driver on the Trolley.

Friday from 6 – 9:45pm: Kensico Dam Music Fest and Fireworks Live entertainment with patriotic music and fireworks. Bring chairs and/or blankets for seating. Carpooling recommended. Kensico Dam Plaza, Valhalla.

Friday, July 3 – Saturday, July 4:

Fridays and Saturday (7/4) at Sundown: Fireworks Every Friday in July and August spectacular fireworks displays are choreographed to music beginning July 3. Special Holiday Shows July 3 – 4. Fireworks are shot off from our Pier on these Special Event Days. Playland, Rye.

Friday, July 3 – Sunday, July 5:

{Reoccurring} Friday starting at 5pm, Saturday – Sunday starting at 1pm: Palisades Fair Join us for the all new Palisades Fair in West Nyack, NY at Palisades Center Mall. There is plenty to see and do including a huge carnival midway, delicious food, games, and free live entertainment and shows including The Fearless Flores Thrill Show, Lance Gifford’s Magic & Illusion Show, Las Vegas Hypnotist Show, a free Petting Zoo and many more! Saturday, July 4:

{National} Saturdays at 10am: Jr. Chef Class: Berry Pies and Crisps Join us to make a lattice-crusted blueberry pie and a berry fruit crisp! Kids will learn how to roll out pastry dough, cut a lattice crust, and use seasonal fruit to create delicious filling for their favorite desserts. Suitable for ages 5-13. Williams-Sonoma locations.

Saturday from 11am – 4pm: Independence Day Fair Fair activities include: discovery centers, live music, colonial games, pony rides, hayrides, blacksmith, petting zoo, horses, beekeeping, crafts, birdhouse building, art context and more. Saturday from 12 – 10pm: 4th of July Celebration Philipse kicks off the fun at 12 with colonial reenactments and arts and crafts, from 4 – 6pm kids’ activities are at Sarah Lawrence Center for the Urban River at Beczak. Live music starts at 6 pm on three stages and fireworks over the hudson river starts at 9:15pm. Van der Donck Park, Yonkers.

{Parents Time Out} Saturday from 1 – 3pm: Backyard Chickens Want to know what it takes it keep chickens in your backyard? Not sure what the rules are in your area? Learn that and a lot more during our Backyard Chicken workshop. Free. Adulds 18 and up only. Pre-registration required. Class size is limited. Muscoot Farm, Katonah.

Saturday at 8pm: Pops, Patriots & Fireworks Celebrate the nation’s birthday at this dazzling, star-spangled evening full of patriotic music, picnics on the lawn, and fireworks! The Westchester Symphonic Winds conducted by Curt Ebersole and Broadway’s Ryan Silverman return by popular demand from last year’s heart-pounding performance to deliver another 4th of July that the whole family will love. Sousa marches, Americana and timeless favorites played by this 60-piece wind and percussion ensemble, as well as American Songbook and Patriotic favorites sung by Silverman, will be followed by fireworks after the concert. $30 and up. Children 12 and under half price. Raindate: 7/5 at 9:30pm. Caramoor Center for Music & the Arts, Katonah.

Saturday at 9pm: July 4th Fireworks The Village of Nyack will hold its annual fireworks display on Saturday, July 4th, at 9pm in Memorial Park! This year’s fireworks is fully funded by the Village! Our display can be seen from any place in the Village where there is a clear view of the southeast sky.

Saturday at 9pm: July 4th Fireworks The Villages of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are sponsoring a 4th of July fireworks display. They will be shot off at the General Motors site and can be viewed from Pierson Park or Kingsland Point Park. They are scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 4th and will last approximately 25-30 minutes.

Saturday at 9:30pm: Spark the Sound July 4th Fireworks This July 4th, celebrate our nation’s independence with fireworks by Grucci. Show starts at 9:30PM and can be viewed from all waterfront parks including Hudson and Five Islands. New Rochelle.

Sunday, July 5:

{National} Sundays at 1pm: Free Technique Class: The Perfect Roast Chicken Using a vertical chicken roaster creates juicy, perfectly cooked chicken every time. We’ll show you two easy recipes for cooking your chicken, as well as an easy side dish of roasted potatoes and veggies to serve with it. Times can vary by location. Williams Sonoma locations.
